I currently manage the Housing & Public Health Unit’s activities in Bolton. Within the unit we run the Council's licensing schemes and monitor housing conditions, respond to complaints and work in partnership with landlords to improve the conditions of residential premises and improve management practises. I am also involved with developing policy & strategy relating to housing issues such as HMOs, selective/additional licensing, empty properties, equity release and housing allocations.
Previously I was employed by Wrexham CBC, where I worked in housing for four years. My focus is very much driven at the overall effects of housing in the wider sense. Housing intervention provides the ideal opportunity to raise standards and contribute to narrowing the health inequalities. HMO premises are implicit in this as they are occupied by some of the most vulnerable in society.
I am currently working to develop a new proactive housing inspection regime linked into an evaluation of the health outcomes which in the present climate is crucial in demonstrating the impact and assisting in gaining further financial resource. I have also previously organised a conference on behalf of the National HMO Network.
