After qualifying in 1989, I spent the first eleven years of my career working for Manchester City Council, the majority of which were within the Private Sector Housing division in a variety of enforcement and regeneration roles, including HMO enforcement and working in HMO local action areas.
In 2000 I moved to Stockport MBC, where I now work as Head of Housing Strategy & Standards. Throughout my time at Stockport, I have had managerial responsibility for the Housing Standards team, which encompasses HMO enforcement work, although my current position also includes Housing Strategy, DFG and other improvement/renovation works, HECA, the RSL Partnership and monitoring the ALMO. I am involved in a number of sub regional, regional and national groups associated with HMOs, including establishing and Chairing the National Fire Safety Protocol & Standards group. I am also the Local Government Association representative on the Residential Property Tribunal Service National User Group.
I have been a member of the National HMO Steering Group since 2000.
