I moved to work in the Housing Standards Team at Cambridge in 2007, where I am responsible for undertaking the full range of housing duties, including HMO Licensing and HHSRS. The work particularly involves dealing with a very wide range of student HMOs.
I have worked in the HMO field for over 20 years, and have extensive experience of both rural and urban councils, together with freelance, private consultancy and voluntary sectors. This has included long periods of urban renewal, in an HAA in Hackney, and an SRB project in Newham.
I have practical experience of using Control Orders, Compulsory Purchase Powers, and prosecuting landlords for harassment and illegal eviction. I am also familiar with convening / chairing landlords’ forums, and have chaired the CIEH London HMO study Group for over 3 years. Currently I am working voluntarily in relation to the Collective Enfranchisement and setting up of Management Companies for two large conversions with absentee freeholders and diverse leaseholders. In early 2007, I was accepted onto the LACORS expert panel reviewing issues relating to the implementation of the Housing Act 2004.
I have been a member of the Network Steering Group since 2004 and am currently the Network’s Press Officer.
