I have been a qualified EHO since 2001 and have been working in Private Sector Housing for Gateshead Council since August 2004. I was co-opted to the Network's Steering Group for 2006-2007 and elected to the Steering Group in April 2007.
I currently carry out HMO inspections for both licensable and non-licensable premises. I set up the mandatory licensing scheme and fee structure for Gateshead and I will be the EHO who licences all relevant HMOs. I have also drafted 2 guidance documents on HMOs for both landlords and tenants.
I successfully organised the National HMO Network Conference in November 2005 held at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel.
Gateshead was one of the nine UK local authorities asked by the ODPM to comment on the HMO Licensing Regulations and was also instrumental in instigating the mandatory licensing of HMOs.
