The Residential Landlords Association (RLA) represents landlords many of which are owners of HMOs. They assist them in their compliance with legislation and in the process of becoming professional and adopting best practices.
I have been actively involved in their training programme including the development of the online training course and delivering the mandatory training for HMO licensees in Leeds. We are active in national policy and actively lobby Government for better regulation and standards in the PRS. They have developed schemes in partnership with local authorities for self assessment as an alternative or compliment to selective licensing. They are active in accreditation and have developed a national landlord’s accreditation scheme which actively seeks local authorities as strategic partners.
I spent several years in inner London enforcing standards in HMOs I have made a positive contribution to the raising of standards in the PRS as Chair and secretary of ANUK and in the development of DASH East Midlands, which was recognised by the CLG as an example of good practise. I will bring the same level of commitment and experience to the Steering Group, providing a balance between regulators and providers in the PRS.
